SVB Crisis

It’s all over the news, we’ve all heard about it. Now they are predicting no more rate rises and cuts on the horizon which means more inflation. I’m seeing a few people say more liquidity being pumped into the system and that it’s a good time to buy hard assets i.e. gold/silver, RE etc. But I wanted to ask some of the more knowledgeable folk on here what you’re thinking?

(Sorry for short posts! I’m on phone but wanted to generate some discussion about this)

did you really need to create two consecutive insubstantial articles ?

these barely warrant being comments let alone stand alone pieces

That’s what being forced to live alongside diversity does to you.

The90kwbeast

No more rate rises means stagflation I would have thought for the next 12 months?

Protect the wealthy from further asset write downs from further rate hikes (gives the Fed an off ramp) and screw the poor again as usual, SVB would be a nice pretext for that.

Ramjet

DLS wrote an article in news.com.au saying there will be no more rate rises. Funny how becoming a mortgage broker taints your articles.

But I agree with you. Poor will be screwed and we’ll get back to transferring money from the poor to the rich.

TINA!

Freddy

IMO a lot of what is happening now is premature. Investors have been looking for an excuse for a pivot but I doubt this is it. Europe kept on raising rates after a similar bond swap arrangement last year.

I expect US Fed might only raise 0.25% (instead of 0.5%) just to gently let everyone know that it is not a financial crisis, and there is still an inflation problem to be solved.

Peachy

I’m with Freddy.

folks that think that this signifies the peak are probably getting ahead of themselves.

because it isn’t THIS that the fed wanted broken. Unfortunately THIS gave way first. So they’ll more likely look to fix THIS and continue tightening in order to break whatever they had originally intended.

The90kwbeast

Yes. History shows the central banks will continue to hike rates too far right into a recession ” because the alternative is worse”

The 10-2 year is negative 0.5% now the most negative it’s been since the 1980s!

But – given where asset prices are now, will this be allowed?

As recently as a year ago getting even this far was crazy talk.

Bodrodrian

The plan was to break the little guy. They actually want unemployment to rise and people to lose jobs and houses.
The plan was never to upset big business or the venture capital community. Hence why they are being made whole.

robert2013

That’s what I was goign to say, probably parroting you or something else I read. I wonder if we read the same thing!

Agent 47

Agree.

Bank of England has also kept hiking after that pension crisis a couple of months back. So I think the pivot bros are in for a surprise.

Aussie Soy Boy

It looks like they’ve lost control of inflation now. They can’t control is without system wide banking collapses. I guess you want your money in precious metals, commodities, oil, bricks and motar.

The90kwbeast

This is my initial reaction also but then central banks, this time, need to do the opposite to what they’ve done every other time which is hike rates too far right into a recession.

Also SVB was heavily involved in start ups it seems so at least in theory it’s not suggestive of a more systemic issue but the same thing were said pre GFC so let’s find out eh

Aussie Soy Boy

I think you’re correct. They try to elegantly break it and cause mass layoffs to the right people and bring rates under control, removes systemic risk.

The yanks giving another free kick to China. Easy peasy now for global economic supremacy now.

well, yes. but they’re not.

instead of having to grovel for adblu, we’ve paid our tribute of $300b (will be more of course) in a different way.

so the tribute still gets paid one way or the other.

again, it’s not a bad thing, it’s just the way it is.

Either Australia does what the US wants and signs up to a terrible military deal, or Albo goes the way of Whitlam and a more sycophantic arselicker is found to replace him. Luckily for Albo though he is already the biggest arselicker there is so of course he signed up. https://consortiumnews.com/2023/03/15/caitlin-johnstone-australias-real-fear-isnt-china/

Peachy

https://consortiumnews.com/2023/03/15/caitlin-johnstone-australias-real-fear-isnt-china/

that’s a decent writeup, but I think that I put it more concisely than Caitlin Johnstone did.

also, as to this moralising:

Australia is caught between a rock and a Pentagon, and both are the fault of the United States. The U.S. is responsible for engineering all these hostilitiesbetween China and the Western power alliance in its desperate attempts to secure unipolar hegemony, and the U.S. is responsible for creating the fear other countries feel knowing what fate might befall them if they disobey its dictates.

The U.S. is solely responsible for creating a situation in which we are being forced to choose between (A) throwing our sons and daughters into the gears of an unimaginably terrible war while destroying our economy and risking nuclear armageddon, or (B) facing retribution and retaliation from a government that is far more violent and destructive than China.

Caitlin can go and live in China, if it’s so awesome and she loves it so much.

The90kwbeast

Yes. She conveniently ignored the increasing ly belligerent behavior exhibited by that country over the past decade.

It blows my mind really that after several decades last century fighting communism, that our largest trading partner is a communist dictatorship. You really can’t make this stuff up.

Anything for a quick buck eh..

The90kwbeast

Forgot to mention what she is correct about is does Australia actually have a plan for when we are forced to significantly reduce trade with China? I would imagine it’s unlikely this could be achieved without significant short term economic pain

Peachy

does Australia actually have a plan for when we are forced to significantly reduce trade with China?

of course. the plan is for the government of the day to blame the previous government for not making EZFKA ready for this development.

then, we lower teh rates and open the gates wider to subcontinental and African inward migration.

we’ve basically had a dress rehearsal for this recently in connection with covid

Peachy

Anything for a quick buck eh..

exactly. if you actually think about it, the only positive thing about China is that we get some profits from trading with it. nothing else.

if there were no profits there – eg China were another North Korea – nobody would think twice about nuzzling up close to the US to make sure were safe from them.

bjw678

China has not been communist for many decades..

Australia is caught between a rock and a Pentagon, and both are the fault of the United States. The U.S. is responsible for engineering all these hostilities between China and the Western power alliance in its desperate attempts to secure unipolar hegemony, and the U.S. is responsible for creating the fear other countries feel knowing what fate might befall them if they disobey its dictates.

This is actually an accurate assessment of the USA foreign policy and military expansion since the end of WWII. Wars in Korea and Vietnam, multiple USA military bases in the area (South Korea, Japan, Philippines, Australia), constant projection of power around the globe via aircraft carrier groups – yes, that makes countries nervous. Those that can stand up – do, those who can’t are not really in position to remain neutral.

China was a backwards country until the 80s. Then politicians and businessmen in the USA decided that cheap and plentiful labour resources made China a great option to relocate a large part of the US (and European) manufacturing base. This has developed China’s manufacturing capabilities to where it is the manufacturing hub of the world, and leads the world in GDP (if you discount the fact that the US’ GDP includes a lot of financials, or non-productive assets).

This allowed China to lift something like 400M people out of poverty (maybe more), modernise its military, given the US military build-up in the region over the decades, and advance its technology to space exploration, hypersonics and other various areas that the USA are now lagging.

As far as belligerence exhibited by China over the last decade, the only example that I can come up with is its expansion in the South China Sea, building up artificial islands and claiming territorial waters around them. That whole area is a convoluted mess, with multiple countries claiming the same waters as theirs, and relying on the USA to enforce their own ambitions. China in its current state is the creation of the USA, with Chinese leadership using it to their benefit, which you have to at least acknowledge and respect.

The whole Taiwan issue is being escalated by the USA and its closest allies – UK, Australia. UK is now selling weapons to Taiwan. US generals openly talk about coming war with China. This has so many parallels with the Cold War era, where the collective West used this to enrich its military-industrial complex. Or the post 9/11 decades, where the global war on terror was used for the same purpose.

I am no lover of China, but one has to look at history to get a better picture, not just the latest headlines. USA has been the aggressor in every single war for the last 30 years, except, maybe, Yemen. China has not started anything. USA has a long and proud history of exerting its will across the world, starting wars, overthrowing governments and usurping countries’ natural resources. They do it via 2 means – USD as a reserve currency, and protecting this currency via its military power. Last two dudes who decided to sell oil in other than the US dollars were S. Hussein and M. Kaddafi. We all know what happened to them.

As far as fighting communism, the collective west is now more communist than China. Yes, they have one party and no opposition, but at least they are not two-faced about it, unlike the uni-parties in the USA and here, where right wing and left wing are presented as democracy and freedom of choice but it is the same damn bird!

SVB is making news headlines, but the more serious economic issues are virtually unreported. There has been a large increase in credit card debt. The previous time this happened was prior to the GFC. Also an increase in autoloan delinquencies. But alas, these only affect working class and SVB is for the wealthy woke, so the news and policies will be directed towards them.

what is “australian local” though

the one thing i always hated about how the abs collects this kind of data is how they never truly differentiate by race, lumping a lot of people into a big category called ‘australian’ that could be anything

therer needs to be clearly defined racial categories

You’re not going to get racial categories.

the meaning of “local” shouldn’t be hard to work out though. It’s 67% of the population – so most likely represents those born on the continent.

Stewie

Reddit was bought by some time ago by the Newhouse family. Look after your fellow…. is it really surprising that they would censor any discussions around immigration or any other topic that their cultural values oppose?

All that it takes to change society is powerful men using their wealth and influence to spread their truly held values, and suppress or oppose those values they oppose.

Stewie

SMH is basically the Women’s Weekly at this point:

First up we have a Vagina owning Doctor, Elizabeth Oliver, who claims at being emotionally exhausted in having to deal with…. patients!

A colleague recently stepped into a job vacated by a male, older doctor [Stewie: author immediately identifies the problem]. The families are complex, poor, geographically and socially isolated and deeply traumatised. She does the needful – addresses the social, emotional, financial, logistical things that contribute most of their suffering, an invaluable action from someone who can frame the medical among everything else. “You listen!” they marvel. They have never had anyone try to address the reality of their lives.

But the work has been left undone for years. She has opened the floodgates and the job has collapsed on her. Crushed by the backlog, she will burn out, the families will lose, again, and her exit will be attributed to “not having what it takes”. Of course, she has what it takes.

What she’s questioning is whether she can or wants to be a female GP – that is, meet the exponentially rising demands for her expertise and empathy in an environment that blames her for struggling under the workload that society generates, male doctors are often permitted to ignore, and nobody wants to pay for.

According to the author the problem is that male doctors are not becoming as irrationally emotionally invested in their patients, while executing their primary function – providing medical services – which means that they don’t burn out listening to other Neurotic women claiming about their neurosis, and are thus unfairly able to withstand the demands of…. being a doctor

https://www.smh.com.au/culture/tv-and-radio/i-m-a-gp-ted-lasso-s-comments-to-his-therapist-are-where-the-comedy-stops-20230315-p5cs6w.html

Then with vagina owner Dana McKay a so called tech reporter, in reality a modern day Luddite with a Feminist twist, who laments how terrible it is that technology can be used in inappropriate ways:

Recent reports show the use of smart home technologies such as Alexa, Google Nest, and the Ring doorbell to make prisoners of women in their own homes. Smart cars have been used by abusers to track women and prevent free movement.

Apple recently released the AirTag, a device that can readily track objects through a global network of iPhones, with a sticker on it admonishing users not to use it to track people – there is already a lawsuit against Apple by two women whose exes used it to do exactly that.

Social media has been used to foment and spread hateful, threatening and abusive speech – especially against women leaders and public figures, with people like former New Zealand prime minister Jacinda Ardern facing threats not just on her life, but the life of her child.

Oh noes! Someone saying something mean to someone else on social media is so stressful for my neurosis

What is our vagina owners solution? Why mandating to get more women into leadership roles, like they occupied at SVB where the gay, black, female leader focused on the most critical risk in Finance at the moment – Lack of Diversity rather than say, Interest Rate Risk:

The one strategy that hasn’t been widely used, which is both startlingly simple and seemingly impossible, is to have more women coding, designing and in leadership roles at the companies who build these tools. As long as decisions in technology design are in the hands of a select few, there will be groups of people left behind. Women are a pretty big group to be underrepresented in the sector.

https://www.smh.com.au/national/male-made-technology-is-ruining-women-s-lives-we-need-a-bumble-revolution-20230306-p5cprr.html

Honestly, while there are many women with worthwhile opinions who compete more than adequately with male colleagues, the unfortunate fact is their positive contribution to society is more than outweighed by all the other vagina owners, like the authors of these two articles, making their inability to deal with the stresses of working life a problem for everyone else.

LSWCHP

I had a 40 year career in advanced engineering. I was, for a while, a card carrying member of the “let’s employ female engineers” club. I left that club after almost every female engineer I recruited or worked with turned put to be a complete fucking disaster and utter, utter pain in the arse. Male engineers are an odd crew at the best of time. The autism is strong in most of us. Combine that oddness with typical female neuroticism, anxiety, narcissism and Christ knows what else, and you have a recipe for a train wreck every time.

The world would be a much better place if there were no female engineers. Or degenerate transgender perverts as well, but I digress.

Stewie

My issue is less about women having a voice, and more about women having an unopposed voice – where those who push their particular narrative are allowed to do so uncritically. Where the only wrong do’ers in the world are men, and woe betide any man who criticises a woman.

Honestly I don’t think I’ve read a single article in the SMH that has EVER criticised women as a group, yet every day I read numerous stories (if I can bothered) where the ills and travels plaguing us today are all directly or indirectly laid at the feet of men.

A force, once set in motion will continue unopposed until it meets resistance. It is about time these continued poor-me I’m female narratives met some resistance. Honestly if read another article of some vagina owner claiming to be exhausted dealing with residual sexual discrimination that is so small you’d need a microscope to detect, then I’ll be at risk of going postal.

It is an insult to men and it is an insult to all those women who get on with life. There are fuckwits from the sexes – people are fuckwits. The purpose of these stories and neo-cultural values, is as always, to disempower any voice that might oppose life in the Longhouse which is where we’re headed back to.

get on with life”…this is the essence of the marxist lie. “Getting on with life” does not mean working all the hours of the day to make more money as an employee, it means making babies as raising them to adulthood so that they can do the same. It is power hungry lust driven femmos and homos that don’t get this and somehow everyone else got on the train with them. It is a daily source of grief to be so unproductive myself and then to watch my people disappear in the country that should have been our children’s, and then to know that so few seem to think this is a problem. A people that behave like this, believe this rubbish, do not stand up, are a people that deserve to die off. Femmos and homos are parasitic…they cannot reproduce except by recruiting the damaged children of the rest….and ensure a enough damage is done to increase the supply.
