In terms of severe Covid related paranoia, I only ever came across two people who continued to demonstrate an extreme response well after pandemic restrictions were lifted.
One was able to work from home for years. They would pour over all sorts of data, but when the Victorian government stopped releasing Covid data, they stopped going out completely. Refused to visit parents, see friends, go to shops or any places at all. Wouldn’t even see a GP for a specialist referral, even if that meant saving a few hundred dollars each time. Their primary fear was not that they would get Covid, but unknowingly pass it to others and they didn’t want that kind of guilt on their conscience. Eventually they were convinced to go back to work for a few days a week, and reintegrated back into society.
The second one was a weird, autistic guy – refused to ever get any kind of electronic banking or cards as didn’t want to be tracked by authorities so probably had some pre-existing baseline subthreshold paranoia. It wasn’t like he was purchasing anything of concern either – model aircraft kits, glue and paints! When Covid hit he stopped going out also, and refused to leave for fear of getting it. But he did get a credit card – so he could buy all his model supplies online, and has probably never been happier.
