Victoria Police unveil new Café Response Unit as part of beverage consumption crackdown

Victoria Police have unveiled a new Café Response Unit to ensure Victorian citizens are drinking what they should be.

The unit will patrol parks and cafes around Melbourne, checking the contents in citizens’ coffee cups is in line with the CHO directions.

“If you’ve ordered a latte and it’s really a cappuccino then you will be dealt with,” Commissioner Shane Patton said.

“We’ll also be checking levels of froth, temperature and how many shots in the cup to make sure they comply with the CHO. It’s all about keeping the public safe.”

The new unit will be given ‘all options’ to deal with rule breakers and will begin patrolling today.
